A dismissal, an illness, a separation, a loss, a financial collapse. At times, even a war, a famine, poverty, or repression. We cannot predict what life holds in store for us, but we know that many people around us, faced with these obstacles, strive to rebuild their lives.

This is the reality for over 4 million widows and widowers, tens of thousands of separated individuals (with approximately 200 separation requests filed daily), 2,250,000 people diagnosed with cancer, over 150,000 migrants who arrived in Italy in 2023 just from the coasts of North Africa, as well as refugees fleeing persecution in their home countries.

Though their stories and struggles may differ, they share a common resolve: to rise from the ashes and move forward, together with their families. The duty of those who accompany them, or even briefly cross their paths, is to truly see them, offer support, and provide hope. As the famous haiku says: “The roof has burned down, now I can see the moon.”
