In his now-famous “three words” (please, thank you, sorry) regarding family life, Pope Francis expanded on the concept of “thank you” stating: “At times, it seems as though we are becoming a civilization of poor manners and harsh words, as if such behaviour were a sign of emancipation.

These words are uttered so frequently, even in public. Kindness and the ability to express gratitude are often viewed as signs of weakness, and, at times, even provoke mistrust.

This tendency must be countered at the very heart of the family. We must be resolute in our efforts to teach gratitude and thankfulness: both personal dignity and social justice are grounded in this. If family life neglects this approach, social life will inevitably suffer”.
